- I am a self taught community interpreter and translator living in the north east of the UK. I was born and grew up in Latvia and moved to the United Kingdom in 2003. I started to work as an interpreter while studied on the Business Management degree in Doncaster University Centre. Interpreting and translating turned from a part time job to a great passion and since 2007 I am teaching professional qualifications for interpreters and translators in Doncaster College. In addition I am working full time for Doncaster Business School and developing qualifications bringing together linguistic aspects of translators with the busness side of the work. I am currently studying on MA Education Innovation and Enterprise and have recently achieved a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. My working languages are Latvian and Russian.
Institute of Linguists is hosting a couple of very interesting events in their interpreting division. One is on 22nd May and the topic is around quality of interpreting, another one, 5th June and the topic is 'Websites for Interpreters' I would highly reccomend the later event as we are living in an age of technology and our work is increasingly computerised. Use of website could significantly enhance your professional profile as well as demonstrate effective PPD. Besides the events are not too expensive.
